Dream to Cockatoo Island
Jan 2, 2020
“Dream to Cockatoo Island” is a chandelier constructed from plywood, foam board, and a single lightbulb. The work was inspired by the cancellation of an art camp during COVID, prompting me to imagine what Cockatoo Island might feel like at night. This piece became a material-focused experiment, using leftover packaging materials to explore form and light. Influenced by the comb-like crest of cockatoos, the sculpture investigates how light travels through foam. By repurposing discarded items, the work also engages with environmental concerns, transforming waste into function and beauty while questioning how materials typically seen as disposable can be reimagined.
